do you think "relaxed fit" is preppy?
I'm a classic prep and bought some j.crew relaxed fit chinos - I'm not fat they're just made baggier and i tried them on today and there is some bag in it but not much
so sticking to my true prep looks should i ditch them or keep them.
id be wearing a polo or oxford shirt with it

Relaxed fit could mean a coupe of thing in preppy-dom. For example, I check out those pants on J. Crew's website and from the look of how they are on the model it basically looks as if they are a little more looser through the legs. That's ok if you are a little more full figured in those area, but if you are fairly tall and lean, a slim cut or regular fit would probably look best on you. I usually go for pants that are more tailored and trim because that's what looks the best on me. Now depending on cut and material, or even life the pants have say emboidered emblems and such a relaxed look would be ok if you wanted to layer with a dress shirt, tie, and say a pima or cashmere sweater.
I would say for you to maybe downsize...go one size smaller than your normal waist. If you like how they fit and feel, the type of shoe you decide to go with could also change your opinion of how they feel and look on you. If I were you I would keep them until you found an complete outfit that you would use the pants for and then try everything on together to make up your mind.
